On Men, Part One

FALL OF THE WEST
For two millennia, the tribal peoples on the western continent of Morithir fought and struggled against one another until ultimately rising into seven separate nations. Namely Tuanna, Draigtir, Pohja, Kazdim, Lusinia, Vanzig, and Ruskolyn. Despite the occasional war, periods of peace and prosperity allowed them to develop into cultured civilizations.
Then came the ill-fated day when a dark lord rose to power from within the Kingdom of Ruskolyn and created a war machine the likes of which had never been seen. His name was Nedred, the Destroyer.
Nedred first demanded tribute from his neighboring country Vanzig. His terms were simple: swear fealty or face annihilation. Vanzig bowed a knee without hesitation. With his southern border secured, Nedred next invaded and conquered Lusinia. The Kingdoms of Tuanna, Draigtir, and Pohja put aside their differences and allied against this threat, while the Empire of Kazdim remained neutral.
The alliance battled against Nedred for two decades until he called upon the dark arts and bred a small army of flesh-eating beasts. This was the war's killing stroke, for the allied troops were no match for these savage creatures. Desperation set in as the three kingdoms realized that if civilized mankind were to survive, they would have to flee the continent of Morithir.
CROSSING OF THE STONE
Years before Nedred’s assault on Morithir, the maritime Kingdom of Tuanna discovered a habitable continent to the east while exploring the Gorm Ocean. Tuanna shared this discovery with her closest ally, the Kingdom of Draigtir, and both nations slowly began to colonize this new land. The continent became known as Lannithir.
With the impending fall of the West, the king of Tuanna sent his queen and three sons to this new world, along with as many of his people that his ships could hold. He remained behind to fight and die as Conn, Lord of a Hundred Battles. The Kingdoms of Draigtir and Pohja likewise evacuated their nobility and people by ship. This left only the Kazdim Empire. To their misfortune, the Kazdites were not seafaring people, having only small fishing boats unsuited for ocean travel. Therefore, Kazdim’s emperor begged the alliance to rescue his royal family and nobles from the dreadful fate awaiting them. The Empire stood neutral during the past twenty years of conflict, so this plea fell on deaf ears. Tuanna alone answered the emperor’s appeal under the condition that Kazdim would serve as a vassal upon landing in Lannithir. Desperate for the survival of his seedline, the emperor swore an oath to Tuanna and escaped to the new world.
